Later Prateep Kumar inaugurated the newly constructed Reptile House, Herbivore Quarantine Facility, Curator's New Chamber, and Meeting Hall as part of the Zoo Development programs. The Reptile House has been built to house the green iguana and other small species of reptiles.
N. Prateep Kumar said that the Conservation of biodiversity around us is very important for the survival of mankind. We all have a responsibility to conserve biodiversity while protecting the small creatures and animals around us. He said that we are conserving tigers in Nagarjuna Sagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve. The impact of the extinction of any creature in an ecosystem would be huge, and sometimes even some areas could disappear from the map. Biodiversity exists in such a way that each organism is dependent on another. PCCF & Hoff, AP, has further said that IGZP is continuously developing by arranging the necessary facilities and enclosures.
Herbivore Quarantine Facility is meant for housing the newly brought herbivore animals from outside the Zoo during the Quarantine period. Shri. Prateep Kumar, IFS, congratulated Curator Dr Nandani Salaria, IFS, for her efforts towards bringing CER/CSR funds to the Zoo for its development, and he thanked the IOCL for taking this initiative.
Later in the evening, Vizag Zoo hosted a special seminar on International Biological Diversity Day. Forest Research Centre for Coastal Ecosystem, Institute of Forest Biodiversity, collaborated with IGZP on this occasion. Dr Sumit Chakrabarti, Scientist-G, took a session on creating awareness about biodiversity and explained spiders in particular and their importance in biodiversity, followed by a spider walk in the Zoo with the participants.
