Visakhapatnam: The Ramaneni Kodandaramaiah Sports Complex, a new state-of-the-art facility with an air-conditioned auditorium seating 250, was inaugurated on Monday at Andhra University’s Silver Jubilee Stadium. Constructed at a cost of over ₹2 crore, the complex aims to boost sports infrastructure in the region.
MP Kesineni Sivanath, attending the event, praised Vizag’s evolution into Andhra Pradesh’s financial capital and expressed optimism for its growth as a sporting hub. He honored athlete Jyoti Erraji with a ₹5 lakh cheque and commended Kodandaramaiah’s lasting impact on national sports, particularly volleyball, where he was known as the “Kodandaramaiah of volleyball.”
Visakhapatnam MP Bharat emphasized the need for sports infrastructure development to encourage youth engagement in physical activities, especially amid rising smartphone use. He announced a five-year plan to enhance sports facilities across the city.
Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao lauded the legacy of Kodandaramaiah’s family and assured government support for the region’s athletes, promising to address their needs with the Chief Minister. MLA P.V.G.R. Naidu shared fond memories of Kodandaramaiah as his mentor, highlighting the importance of the new facility’s location near the volleyball court.
