In a remarkable display of community engagement and commitment to health, over 5,100 tribal residents participated in the 'Yogandhra' event held in the Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district on June 4, 2025. This initiative is part of Andhra Pradesh's month-long 'Yogandhra-2025' campaign, leading up to the International Day of Yoga on June 21.
The event saw approximately 3,000 individuals receiving training from 200 yoga instructors, with specialized sessions conducted for 50 individuals in each secretariat. ASR District Collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar emphasized the importance of daily yoga practice, urging citizens to dedicate 40 minutes each day to yoga for a healthier lifestyle. He also highlighted the government's efforts to promote yoga awareness across all villages and encouraged a significant turnout for the upcoming Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend.
MLA Miriyala Sirisha Devi addressed the gathering, describing yoga as a valuable heritage of India and a resource for maintaining human health. She urged participants to spread awareness about yoga within their communities. ITDA Project Officer Katta Simhachalam noted that since the United Nations designated June 21 as World Yoga Day in 2014, efforts have been made to promote yoga in every village, aiming for a healthier Andhra Pradesh.
The 'Yogandhra-2025' campaign, launched on May 21, has garnered significant participation, with over 1.13 crore registrations so far. The state government aims to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest yoga gathering on June 21, with plans for a mass yoga performance along the coastal stretch from RK Beach to Bhimili in Visakhapatnam.
