A new detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared by Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRC) and sent for the state government's approval.

Public Relations Society of India(PRSI) Visakhapatnam Chapter organised a special talk on Vizag Metro Rail -Smart Public Transport with AP Metro Rail Corporation Limited Managing Director UJM Rao. 

PRSI Visakhapatnam Chapter Chairman Dr PLKMurthy, Vice Chairman RP Sharma, Secretary MKVL Narasimham, PRSI South India Vice-President U S Sarma, and treasurer NV Narasimham participated in this meeting. While addressing the gathering, UJM Rao said the new DPR was prepared in view of the city's increasing population and future requirements. As per the new DPR, the proposed Vizag Metro Rail Project is estimated at Rs 14,309 crores and will cover 76.9 km with 54 stops.

Mr Rao also briefed that three corridors are likely expected, and they include Steel Plant to Bhogapuram Airport, Gurudwara to Old Post Office, and Thatichetlapalem to RK Beach (Chinna Waltair).

There is a scope of making a few more changes before getting final approvals from the central government. The AP State Government is very keen on implementing the project. The metro rail is eco-friendly, will cut off the travel time, low cost, and can bring down the number of accidents.

He also said that the GDP of many cities has increased after starting metro rail.
