Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited Breaks Records in Steelmaking
Visakhapatnam: Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) has once again set a remarkable record in the world of steel production. The LD converter-1 at steel melting shop-2 (SMS-2) has surpassed its own previous record for converter lining life.
This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of the entire RINL team, particularly the SMS-2 unit.
On September 9, 2023, the converter-1 at SMS-2 reached a historic milestone by achieving a converter lining life of 7,849, breaking its own previous record of 7,847 set on July 17, 2019.
This remarkable accomplishment not only establishes a new benchmark for converter lining life but also stands as the highest converter lining life achieved in both SMS-1 and SMS-2 since their inception.
Converter lining life is a critical factor in steelmaking, representing the duration during which the refractory lining inside the converter vessel remains effective and operational.
This lining is of utmost importance in steelmaking converters, as it provides insulation and protection against the extreme temperatures and chemical reactions involved in the steel production process.
A longer lining life in a converter contributes to cost savings, increased productivity, enhanced energy efficiency, improved steel quality, environmental benefits, and heightened safety.
CMD of RINL, Atul Bhatt, along with the director (Projects) and additional charge Director (Operations), AK Bagchi, extend their hearty congratulations to the SMS-2 team, as well as to the refractory engineering and other associated departments, for their outstanding achievement.
This milestone underscores RINL's commitment to excellence and innovation in the steel industry, reaffirming its position as a leader in the field.
