Residents of the Bhagavatula Layout in Rushikonda, Visakhapatnam, have raised serious concerns over the illegal encroachment of public roads in their neighborhood. According to local sources, several roads in the area have been fenced off by private individuals or entities, restricting public access and disrupting daily commutes.
The encroachments have sparked frustration among residents, many of whom are unable to use essential pathways that connect to main roads and community facilities. Locals allege that these actions are being carried out without any proper approvals, and are calling for immediate intervention from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).
"This is a clear violation of public rights. Roads meant for community use are being blocked and fenced as if they are private property," said a resident of Bhagavatula Layout.
Urban planners and civic activists have also weighed in on the issue, stating that unregulated land grabs can severely affect urban mobility and emergency access routes. The residents are now demanding that the municipal authorities take swift legal action, remove illegal structures, and ensure the roads remain accessible to the public.
GVMC officials have been notified, and an inquiry is expected in the coming days to determine the legality of the fencing and identify responsible parties.
