Savings of Rs 2 lakh by 28-year-old Buridi Jemma, to construct a 3km kutcha road linking her village to the nearest main road.

The lack of road connectivity in Thotagodiput in Asr District posed dire challenges, particularly for pregnant women like 28-year-old Buridi Jemma.

Hindered by rugged terrain and isolation, accessing medical care became a perilous endeavor.

Jemma's resolve amidst adversity led to a remarkable decision: she sacrificed her savings of Rs 2 lakh, meant for her family's home, to construct a 3km kutcha road linking her village to the nearest main road.

Jemma's act of selflessness resonated deeply, sparking support from individuals across the state who contributed over Rs 1.5 lakh towards the road's construction.

Thotagodiput now boasts a rudimentary road accessible by bikes and auto-rickshaws, alleviating the arduous journey previously endured on foot or makeshift stretchers to reach medical facilities.

The hope lingers that paving the road with bitumen could enable ambulances to reach the village of 10 families.

For Jemma, the road symbolizes more than just connectivity—it embodies a testament to her community's resilience.

Born and raised in a village with minimal access to essential services, Jemma understood the urgency of addressing the connectivity issue firsthand.

Despite her pleas for assistance falling on deaf ears, she persevered, prioritizing the needs of her community over personal comfort.

As an ASHA worker earning a modest income, her decision to defer her home construction for the greater good underscores her unwavering commitment.

With the support of her husband, fellow villagers, and donations, Jemma's determination propelled the road construction forward.

Her actions resonate beyond Thotagodiput, serving as a beacon of hope for tribal communities facing similar challenges.

While the road represents a temporary solution, Jemma's ultimate dream remains the realization of a paved pathway leading to her village.

As her story reverberates, voices like M Prasad's advocate for government recognition and the provision of basic facilities to Thotagodiput.

Jemma's journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of selflessness and community solidarity, echoing the age-old adage: where there's a will, there's a road.
