Shared Responsibility for a Cleaner City: GVMC Commissioner Urges Citizen Participation

In a recent statement, GVMC Commissioner CM Saikanth Varma underscored the collective responsibility of all Visakhapatnam residents in maintaining sanitation for the overall well-being of the city.

Expressing concern over disruptions caused by the ongoing strike of sanitation workers, Varma urged citizens to actively support sanitation maintenance efforts, especially during this challenging period.

With the state experiencing a sanitation worker strike, temporary measures, including the use of private vehicles and additional workers, have been introduced across GVMC zones to address the issue.

Commissioner Saikanth Varma, alongside the city's mayor and GVMC administration, is actively participating in these sanitation efforts.

Varma highlighted the need for residents, resident welfare associations, voluntary organizations, public-private partnerships, ward members, and the general public to refrain from hindering the duties of sanitation workers who are fulfilling their responsibilities during the strike.

He expressed concern about the potential health hazards arising from unsanitary conditions in the city and called upon residents to be mindful of their role in maintaining a clean environment.

Emphasizing Visakhapatnam's consistent recognition as the cleanest city in the nation, Varma stressed the importance of residents actively participating in ongoing sanitation initiatives.

He urged people to dispose of household and commercial waste responsibly by using nearby dustbins instead of littering open spaces, streets, banks, canals, roads, and footpaths.

In a final plea, Commissioner Varma urged sanitation workers to end the strike, assuming their responsibilities as city residents to prevent pollution and safeguard community health.

The collaborative effort of residents, along with the GVMC administration, is crucial in ensuring a clean and healthy environment for everyone in Visakhapatnam.
