Spectacular Showcase: Indian Navy Operational Demonstration Transforms RK Beach into a War Zone
VIZAG, December 10, 2023 – In a mesmerizing display of maritime prowess, the RK Beach in Vizag underwent a remarkable transformation on Sunday as tens of thousands of spectators gathered to witness the Indian Navy Operational Demonstration (op-demo) in celebration of Navy Day.
Originally scheduled for December 4, the op-demo was rescheduled due to safety concerns arising from Cyclone Michaung. The event welcomed the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Justice S Abdul Nazeer, as the Chief Guest, adding a distinguished touch to the festivities.
The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Indian Navy showcased its formidable maritime, air, and onshore capabilities, providing onlookers with a firsthand experience of the Navy's might. The op-demo offered a unique opportunity for the public to witness the multi-faceted activities of the Navy and the challenges faced by naval personnel at sea.
The demonstration kicked off with a dramatic detonation of charges, creating water plumes, followed by the impressive sight of the INS Sindhushastra submarine sailing past.
Highlights of the op-demo included an assault demonstration by marine commandos using high-speed boats, a slithering demo by helicopters, neutralization of anti-national elements, combat freefall by the Navy's skydiving team, and the presentation of a memento to Chief Guest Justice S Abdul Nazeer.
A series of thrilling events unfolded, including high-speed runs by inshore support vessels, maneuvers by fleet ships, anti-submarine rocket firings, helicopter landing demos, hawk demos, amphibious demos, and aircraft demos by Hawks. A composite flypast by various aircraft and Hawks, along with the illumination of ships, captivated the spectators.
The op-demo effectively showcased the formidable capabilities of the Indian Navy's ships, submarines, aircraft, and commandos. The demonstration culminated in a composite flypast by various aircraft, followed by a beating retreat, a ceremonial sunset, and the illumination of ships, as described by a senior naval officer.
The one-hour spectacle left a lasting impression, instilling confidence in the safety of our blue waters and the Navy's ability to respond to any threat. G Ganesh, an employee with a private firm in Vizag city, expressed admiration, stating, "Kudos to a great show." As the op-demo unfolded on a Sunday, thousands of people thronged the beach road, gaining valuable insights into the operations at sea.
