TDP Emerges as Single Largest Party with 64 Wards in GVMC Elections

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance has registered a sweeping victory in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections, winning 98 of the 120 wards and securing a commanding majority in the civic body.

The TDP emerged as the single largest party with 64 wards. Its alliance partners, the Jana Sena Party (JSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured 26 and 8 wards, respectively.

Party-Wise Results

The final party-wise tally reported for the 120 wards is:

  • TDP: 64 wards

  • Jana Sena Party (JSP): 26 wards

  • BJP: 8 wards

  • YSR Congress Party (YSRCP): 13 wards

  • Independents: 8 wards

  • CPI(M): 1 ward

Together, the TDP, JSP and BJP secured 98 wards, giving the alliance more than four-fifths of the seats in the corporation.

YSRCP and Independent Candidates

The YSRCP secured 13 wards, while independent candidates won 8. The CPI(M) won one ward, with its candidate Mokalla Krishnaiah securing Ward 105, according to published results.

The outcome marks a significant setback for the YSRCP, which had won 59 wards in the previous GVMC term.

Mandate and Civic Responsibilities

The results give the TDP-led alliance a strong position in the corporation and place its mayoral candidate, Mukka Sravani, in a position to lead the civic body.

The election outcome comes as the city continues to face civic priorities including urban infrastructure, sanitation, drainage, water supply and public services. The new corporation will be expected to address these issues while delivering on its commitments to residents.
