The proposal for the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project was not received by the Center: Union Minister
The Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Puri, made it clear that there is no pending proposal from the Government of Andhra Pradesh for sanction of the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project. His came in reply to a question by Rajya Sabha member GVL Narasimha Rao of the BJP. Minister Hardeep Puri stated that the Government of India had requested the AP Government to resubmit a proposal as per the revised Metro Rail Policy, 2017, and the state government has not submitted any such proposal as per policy.
The minister also added that the AP government informed the center in 2018 about its intention to build a metro rail project under public-private partnership (PPP) and requested central government support for external financial assistance from the Korean EXIM Bank. However, the Korean EXIM Bank has shown its inability to fund this project. The AP government was also notified about the refusal of the Korean EXIM bank in April 2019.
The AP government was asked to propose the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project to other bilateral or multilateral agencies for financial support, but the AP government has not submitted any proposals to date for any financial assistance from other bilateral or multilateral agencies for the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project.
