The Visakhapatnam district overcame the rainfall deficiency
This season, Visakhapatnam is one of the few districts in the state that has received less rainfall. Until last week, the district had a 23 percent rainfall deficit. Thanks to Monday's heavy downpour, this situation has now changed. Between Monday night and Tuesday morning, most of the district received 20 cm of rain. Four days of continuous rains resulted in 5% more rainfall than usual in the district.
Visakhapatnam received 515mm of rain, compared to the normal of 491mm. This rainfall was caused by coastal convergence in the Bay of Bengal, which resulted in heavy rains in several areas.
The majority of the 11 mandals in the Visakhapatnam district now have excess rainfall. However, the situation in the central Vizag is different, with Maharanipeta and Seethammadhara mandals still having a 28 percent rainfall deficit.
