Theatre Artists from the US Perform 'Ramaavan' in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: On Sunday, a diverse group of renowned theatre artists from the USA captivated audiences in Visakhapatnam with their performance of "Ramaavan," a musical tale inspired by the Hindu epic, Ramayana.
The production offered a unique perspective on the epic, blending Indian classical dance and music with musical theatre, opera, jazz, and contemporary genres.
The event highlighted the beauty, diversity, and profound messages of the Ramayana, enchanting both dedicated followers and new audiences alike.
Rachana Prasad, director of Chiranthana, expressed the significance of the collaboration: "This is a remarkable opportunity for our children, who have varying degrees of developmental disabilities, to work with highly trained musical theatre artists from the US."
Rimli Roy, founder and artistic director of Surati, led the team and shared their excitement: "We are delighted that our work has been recognized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Accomplished musical theatre actors from the US, including Jeff Brackett, Jonathan Power, Andrew Leonforte, Rebecca Jay, and Giselle Bellas, have come to India for this cross-cultural collaboration.
We've assembled a talented team of multi-ethnic musical theatre actors to join the local talent."
The organizers emphasized that while the concept of "Ramaavan" is deeply rooted in Indian culture and history, its message is universal.
The performance wove together a tapestry of complementary art forms from around the world, featuring Indian traditional performing arts alongside classical and popular music and dance genres.
