Visakhapatnam Police Rescue Youth Stranded Abroad
In a recent operation, the Visakhapatnam police successfully rescued a local youth who had been trafficked to Myanmar under the pretense of employment. The individual had applied for a hospital job in Bangkok but was abducted upon arrival and taken to Myanmar, where he was coerced into participating in cybercrimes. After enduring severe mistreatment, he managed to contact his family, who sought assistance from the city police. The authorities coordinated with international agencies to secure his safe return. Police Commissioner Shankabratha Bagchi emphasized the importance of verifying overseas job offers to prevent such incidents.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of employment fraud affecting Indian youths. In December 2024, Andhra Pradesh's Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu pledged to rescue 16 youths from Srikakulam district who were deceived by agents and trapped in Saudi Arabia. These individuals had paid substantial amounts for promised jobs but were left stranded without pay. The state government is actively working with the external affairs ministry to facilitate their return and address the fraudulent practices of the involved agencies.
Similarly, in 2018, the Visakhapatnam police responded to a Twitter complaint and rescued 22 youths stranded in Abu Dhabi. These individuals had been lured by a local agent with promises of employment in a reputable company but found themselves working as helpers in a construction firm under deplorable conditions. The prompt action by the city police, in coordination with company officials, ensured their safe return. Authorities continue to caution job seekers to thoroughly investigate overseas employment opportunities to avoid falling victim to such scams.
These cases highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Indian youths seeking employment abroad and underscore the critical role of vigilant authorities and informed citizens in combating human trafficking and employment fraud.
