Tragedy Strikes: Mumbai Teen Dies After Consuming Shawarma, Roadside Vendors Arrested
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Mumbai was rocked by the untimely death of 19-year-old Prathamesh Bhokse, who succumbed to illness after consuming chicken shawarma from a roadside food stall in Trombay.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, has led to the arrest of two food vendors, Anand Kamble and Mohammad Ahmed Raiza Shaikh, as reported by media outlets.
According to the police, the vendors have been charged under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The tragic ordeal unfolded when Prathamesh Bhokse and his uncle, Hameed Abbas Syed, residents of Maharashtra Nagar, purchased shawarma from the aforementioned stall on May 3.
Senior Inspector Rajesh Shinde recounted the sequence of events, stating, "After consuming the shawarma, he complained of stomach pain and began vomiting.
Despite initial treatment at a municipal hospital and subsequent medication, his condition worsened." The gravity of the situation became evident when Prathamesh's health deteriorated further, prompting his family to rush him to KEM Hospital on May 5.
Despite medical intervention, the young man's health continued to decline, ultimately resulting in his demise on Monday. The tragic loss has left the community reeling, underscoring the importance of stringent food safety measures and heightened vigilance in the street food industry.
As investigations continue, authorities are committed to ensuring justice for Prathamesh and his grieving loved ones, while also reinforcing the need for public awareness regarding food hygiene and vendor accountability.
