Visakhapatnam Collector Urges Error-Free Conduct of Elections

In a bid to ensure the smooth functioning of the electoral process, District Election Officer and Collector A Mallikarjuna of Visakhapatnam has called upon officials to maintain meticulous attention to detail. Recognizing the significance of flawless execution, he emphasized the need for utmost caution, cautioning against even minor errors that could have far-reaching implications.

Addressing returning officers from respective constituencies at a gathering held at the local collectorate, the collector underscored the importance of seamless coordination among officials across sectors and routes. Essential facilities at polling centers, such as sunshades for queue lines and access to drinking water for voters, were highlighted as non-negotiable requirements.

In addition, the collector advocated for the mobilization of NSS and NCC volunteers to aid elderly and disabled voters, urging the provision of wheelchairs as necessary. To further streamline the voting process, he directed officials to establish help desks on polling day to offer assistance to voters.

Ensuring transparency and accessibility, the collector mandated the display of posters featuring candidates' images and voter guide papers outside each polling station. Additionally, he stressed proactive measures to address logistical challenges faced by personnel involved in poll duties, including provisions for water, breakfast, and meals.

In terms of security and monitoring, the installation of webcasting systems both inside and outside sensitive centers was deemed imperative, alongside adequate lighting arrangements.

Highlighting the importance of maintaining electoral decorum, the collector informed attendees of the enforcement of a 48-hour silent period preceding the polling process, during which campaigning in any form, including electronic media, would be prohibited. Furthermore, prior authorization from the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) was deemed mandatory for newspaper advertisements to be published on polling day and the day prior.

Through these comprehensive directives, the Visakhapatnam Collector aims to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, ensuring fair and error-free elections for the benefit of all stakeholders.
