Employees of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) have taken to the streets in a united effort to secure the release of coking coal currently held at the Adani Gangavaram Port. The rallying cry comes as the steel plant faces a critical shortage, threatening its operations and livelihoods.

Led by regular and contract workers of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), accompanied by trade union leaders, the employees marched towards the Adani Gangavaram Port Limited (AGPL) on Wednesday. Their demand is clear: the immediate release of coking coal, crucial for the production processes at VSP.

With over 1,000 participants, including RINL Chief General Manager G. Gandhi, the rally symbolized the urgency of the situation. Amidst interactions with AGPL workers, the plea was simple yet crucial - to allow the smooth transfer of coal from the port to the steel plant.

Mr. Gandhi emphasized the critical state of affairs at the plant, highlighting the necessity of uninterrupted coal supply to sustain operations. The appeal to AGPL workers was grounded in the mutual interest of ensuring the viability of VSP and safeguarding jobs.

In a parallel effort, RINL CMD Atul Bhatt addressed the issue directly with Visakhapatnam Collector A. Mallikarjuna, urging immediate intervention to avert further crisis. Expressing concern over the precarious condition of the plant, Mr. Bhatt stressed the imperative need for police security to facilitate the coal transportation process.

Highlighting a legal aspect, Mr. Bhatt referenced the Andhra Pradesh High Court's directive to expedite coal transportation to RINL, emphasizing the urgency of compliance. Despite legal mandates, AGPL's response remained ambiguous, exacerbating the plight of the steel plant.

As the standoff persists, the fate of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant hangs in the balance, underscoring the significance of collective action and timely intervention to secure vital resources and safeguard industrial stability.
