Tribal Protest Demands Basic Amenities such as electricity, water, roads, and education and Land Protection

In Visakhapatnam, a fervent protest unfolded at the zilla parishad meeting hall, spearheaded by a coalition of tribals hailing from diverse hamlets across the combined Visakhapatnam district.

Their rallying cry echoed demands for fundamental necessities such as electricity, water, roads, and education.

Highlighting their plight, the tribal demonstrators also voiced concerns about the encroachment and exploitation of their lands by external forces.

K Govinda Rao, the honorary president of Andhra Pradesh Adivasi Girijana Sangham, articulated the grievances of the community. Rao emphasized the dire lack of basic amenities in tribal hamlets like Buriga and China Konela, situated in the Ananthagiri mandal.

These areas suffer from inadequate access to essentials such as electricity and clean water.

Adding to their woes, Rao underscored the fraudulent registration of tribal lands under the names of non-tribal individuals in the WebLand records.

Allegations were made against local revenue officials colluding with external entities to facilitate these fraudulent transactions.

Despite filing Record of Rights (ROR) cases in the Paderu collector’s court three years ago, the tribal community has seen no progress in investigations into these irregularities.

Furthermore, the protesters highlighted the pressing need for road connectivity from China Konela to Onija village, essential for facilitating transport and connectivity within the region.

Another significant concern raised was the protection of tribal communities from wildlife threats, particularly nocturnal predators like tigers.

The demonstration serves as a poignant reminder of the persistent challenges faced by tribal communities in accessing basic amenities and safeguarding their ancestral lands from exploitation and encroachment.
