Tribals Stage Protest in Vizag Demanding Basic Infrastructure

In a display of frustration over unaddressed pleas for essential amenities in their villages, tribal communities from various hamlets in the Alluri Seetharama Raju (ASR) district gathered in Vizag city to stage a unique protest.

The demonstration, featuring a mock doli (palanquin) and wooden torches, aimed to draw attention to the pressing need for roads, electricity, and other crucial infrastructure.

Despite multiple requests and protests within their villages and mandals, the tribals felt compelled to take their grievances to the Zilla Parishad (ZP) general body meeting.

This meeting, attended by officials and representatives from Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, and ASR districts, provided a platform for the protestors to voice their concerns.

Originating from hamlets such as Buruga, Chinna Konela, Jajulabandha, Pedda Garuvu, Pithrigedda, Neellabandha, among others, the tribal demonstrators were eventually invited by the ASR district collector to the ZP meeting hall in Vizag city.

There, they had the opportunity to meet the collector and present a comprehensive representation of their issues.

Highlighting the dire circumstances in Jajulabandha hamlet, where 260 tribals from a particularly vulnerable group reside, the protestors articulated their challenges. They emphasized the lack of consistent school attendance by teachers, the absence of medical officers in their villages, and the critical need for infrastructure like roads and electricity.

Tragically, they recounted the recent death of a pregnant woman who couldn't reach the hospital in time due to the absence of a proper road.

Prominent figures, including CPM leader K Govinda Rao, tribal leader Korra Kondababu, Marri Venkata Rao, Somula Appala Raju, and Konaparthi Simhachalam, actively participated in the protest, underscoring the urgency of addressing the longstanding issues faced by these tribal communities.
