Visakhapatnam Leads the Way: Inaugural Electric Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Andhra Pradesh

Marking a significant step towards the future of sustainable transportation, Visakhapatnam has become the first city in Andhra Pradesh to house a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for electric vehicles.

This milestone was achieved through a collaborative effort between Dr Lankapalli Bullayya College of Engineering and TVS Training and Services, as they formally entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the pioneering CoE.

Expected to be operational in the next month, the CoE aims to play a pivotal role in preparing the workforce for the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) industry.

According to Professor D Deepak Chowdary, the principal of Dr Lankapalli Bullayya College of Engineering, Niti Aayog's projections indicate that by 2030, 30% of personal car sales and 70% of commercial car sales are anticipated to be in the electric vehicle segment. He emphasized that an estimated 80% of two-wheeler sales in the same timeframe may belong to the EV category.

Professor Chowdary expressed optimism about the CoE, stating, "At this juncture, a CoE in EV will definitely go a long way in equipping the students with the needed skill sets and providing the country with the required workforce." This establishment is the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, positioning Visakhapatnam as a trailblazer in EV education and skill development.

Dr G. Madhu Kumar, Secretary and correspondent of Dr LB Colleges, underscored the significance of practical skills in the current scenario. He mentioned that the CoE would impart both theoretical and technical knowledge in the EV segment, extending an invitation to students from other engineering colleges to join and stay updated on the latest developments in the EV domain.

G Narayanamurthy, CEO of TVS Training and Services, highlighted that expert trainers from TVS TS would lead the training programs at the CoE. Open to students from various colleges, the CoE will offer insights into core EV technology, covering aspects such as battery systems, control systems, performance measurement, troubleshooting, benchmarking, and more.

Narayanamurthy affirmed, "The CoE will make the students future-ready. We are also committed to bringing a few organizations to recruit the trained students at CoE." This pioneering initiative aims to shape the next generation of innovators and professionals in the evolving landscape of electric vehicles.
