Visakhapatnam Port Authority Celebrates Weeklong 'World Environment Day'

Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) is marking 'World Environment Day' with a weeklong celebration focused on reducing pollution and promoting environmental sustainability.

This initiative features extensive activities aimed at enhancing the green cover and raising environmental awareness in the city.

As part of the celebrations, the VPA has launched a large-scale sapling plantation drive across various areas, including the beach stretch and port vicinity up to Sheela Nagar. On Thursday, officials from the General Administration Department and Finance Department participated in the plantation drive, which covered a 2.5-km stretch from Sea Horse Junction to H7 Junction.

VPA Chairperson M. Angamuthu highlighted the dual benefits of the plantation drive: increasing the green cover in Visakhapatnam and significantly controlling industrial pollution.

The VPA's weeklong events also include various competitions such as painting, essay writing, and quizzes, aimed at promoting a culture of environmental awareness among employees and their families.

T. Venu Gopal, Secretary of the port, emphasized the VPA's long-standing commitment to environmental protection. Over the years, the port has implemented several measures to curb pollution. Looking ahead, the VPA plans to contribute to the planting of a million saplings across Visakhapatnam through ongoing and future plantation drives.

This celebration underscores the VPA's dedication to creating a cleaner, greener environment and fostering a sense of shared responsibility within the community.
