Visakhapatnam Steel Plant: VUPPC Pledges Stronger Protest if NDA Secures Victory Again

Members of the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee (VUPPC) have declared their commitment to escalate their agitation against the sale of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant should the BJP government regain power at the Centre.

Addressing the media in Visakhapatnam on Monday, representatives of the VUPPC urged voters to deliver a resounding message to the BJP in the upcoming elections.

VUPPC chairman Ch Narasinga Rao emphasized the need to reject the BJP's policy of privatizing public sector units by voting against the party.

He reminded everyone that workers and citizens have been steadfastly protesting for 39 months (1155 days) against the Central government's decision.

Narasinga Rao criticized the Centre for disregarding the resolution passed by the state assembly and insisting on selling the plant at all costs.

Speaking at the event, VUPPC chairman D Adinarayana highlighted the success of trade unions in thwarting the Central government's attempts to proceed with the privatization.

Despite the sale of 35 percent shares in SAIL, Adinarayana credited the Ukku stir for preventing any sale of VSP shares.

Mantri Rajashekhar, another VUPPC chairman, expressed confidence in the ability of trade unions to prevent the plant's privatization.

INTUC leader Neerukonda Ramachandra Rao commended the relentless efforts of permanent workers, officers, contract workers, and residents in sustaining the Ukku agitation over the years.

The VUPPC members also accused the Central government of collaborating with corporate entities like Jindal and Tata to undermine the plant's strength through various agreements.
