Vizag Airport Gets Ready for International Cargo Revival
In a significant development, Visakhapatnam Airport is gearing up to resume international cargo operations. The airport's cargo terminal, which has been upgraded to handle international cargo, is expected to become operational soon.
Currently, only IndiGo operates cargo services from Vizag airport, handling an average of 12 tonnes of cargo daily. However, with the resumption of international cargo operations, other airlines are also expected to start their cargo services.
The airport's international cargo terminal has been commissioned, and the necessary approvals have been obtained from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The terminal is equipped to handle bonded cargo, which is expected to have more volumes.
The resumption of international cargo operations at Vizag airport is expected to give a boost to the region's economy, particularly the shrimp, pharma, and textile industries, which rely heavily on air cargo services.
