Vizag District Collector Issues Diarrhoea Alert
Visakhapatnam: In response to a surge in diarrhoea cases across the state, Visakhapatnam District Collector Dr. A. Mallikarjuna has mandated strict preventive measures and heightened vigilance.
During a video conference on Friday, Chief Secretary Neerab Kumar Prasad addressed district collectors regarding the escalating health concern.
Subsequently, Dr. Mallikarjuna convened a special meeting with GVMC Commissioner CM Saikanth Varma, Joint Collector K. Mayur Ashok, district medical and health officials, and water supply wing officials.
Dr. Mallikarjuna emphasized the need for departmental officers to conduct field visits, monitor the current situation, and submit regular reports.
He highlighted the importance of preventing drinking water contamination by inspecting and repairing leaking and damaged pipelines.
Additionally, he directed the cleaning of overhead water tanks and urged measures to curb mosquito and insect breeding, including the use of Gambusia fish and oil balls to control mosquito larvae.
The collector instructed officials to conduct thorough inspections of drinking water tanks, pipelines, hand pumps, and borewells, alongside rigorous water quality testing. This comprehensive approach aims to mitigate the spread of diarrhoea and safeguard public health in the district.
