Vizag Police Launch 100-Day Action Plan to Eradicate Ganja

Visakhapatnam: In a determined effort to rid Visakhapatnam of ganja, the city police have initiated a comprehensive 100-day action plan.

This initiative follows a recent review meeting with Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and other concerned officials.

During the meeting, the Home Minister stressed the importance of identifying and addressing the root causes of the widespread availability of ganja in the district.

As a result, the action plan focuses on eliminating cannabis cultivation not only in Visakhapatnam but also in regions where it is predominantly grown, such as Odisha and the Andhra-Odisha border. The plan also aims to curb its illegal transportation.

The police plan to employ advanced technology to track ganja plantations and significantly reduce its transportation. Measures will be implemented to disrupt the movement of cannabis via road, rail, air, and sea routes.

Police officials highlighted the importance of stringent monitoring of those previously arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A special team will be formed to analyze call detail records (CDRs), internet protocol detail records (IPDRs), bank statements, and electronic devices of these individuals.

In addition to enforcement, the plan emphasizes rehabilitation and de-addiction, working with various voluntary organizations to provide related services. Awareness campaigns will be conducted in educational institutions to educate youth on the dangers of drug abuse. These campaigns will include short films, posters, pamphlets, rallies, and marathons.

The district administration will support the initiative by allocating a budget for technological tools and deploying sniffer dogs to detect narcotics. A special toll-free number, 14500, has been established for reporting drug-related activities and will be prominently displayed throughout the district.

This multi-faceted approach aims to create a ganja-free Visakhapatnam, ensuring a safer and healthier environment for its residents.
