Visakhapatnam’s golf community is preparing for a grassroots push to introduce more people, particularly children and young players, to the sport.

Vizag Dolphins Golf Club (GC), in association with East Point Golf Club (EPGC), plans to organise golf clinics and establish a junior academy to nurture local talent. The initiative coincides with the Green Fuels Maritime Invitational 2026, part of the AM Green Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL), being hosted at EPGC.

Focus on Young and Emerging Talent

Sudhakar Kaligithi, Managing Director of the Green Fuels Group and co-owner of Vizag Dolphins GC, said the franchise aims to identify and develop young talent from Visakhapatnam and across Andhra Pradesh.

The long-term vision is to introduce more children to golf, provide training opportunities and help promising players progress to higher levels of competition.

CH Rajasekhar, Director of Vizag Dolphins GC, said the team plans to conduct more clinics with professional golfers after the tournament and launch a junior academy with support from IGPL.

East Point Golf Club to Support the Initiative

East Point Golf Club, which plans to serve as the home course for Vizag Dolphins GC, will support the effort to increase awareness and participation in the sport.

The club has a long history in Visakhapatnam, dating back to 1884. Its championship course was renovated in 2020, and it has hosted events organised by the Indian Golf Union and the Women’s Golf Association of India.

Club representatives said hosting the IGPL event offers an opportunity to showcase the course and introduce more residents to golf.

X-Golf Format Aims to Attract New Audiences

The AM Green IGPL has introduced X-Golf, a speed-golf format designed to make the sport more engaging for younger audiences and people unfamiliar with traditional golf.

The format is played on a single hole in a stadium-style setting and against the clock. Organisers believe its faster pace and spectator-friendly presentation can help build interest in the game.

Building a Golf Culture in Andhra Pradesh

The grassroots initiative aims to make golf more accessible and familiar to people in Visakhapatnam and beyond. Through clinics, junior training and newer formats such as X-Golf, Vizag Dolphins GC and EPGC hope to expand participation and create pathways for young players to develop their skills.
