Vizag Navy Marathon 2023: Running Towards a Sporty Future

The 8th edition of the Vizag Navy Marathon, an event aimed at promoting running and sports in the city of Visakhapatnam, is set to take place on November 5, 2023. The Race Director of the event, Venkata Raman, made this announcement during a media conference held at Dolphin Hotel on a Wednesday evening.

The Vizag Navy Marathon has been steadily gaining popularity, with an increasing number of participants each year. From its inception with 1800 participants in 2022, the event saw a remarkable 18000 individuals taking part in the last edition. This year, the marathon is offering an even broader appeal with its program structured across four distinct run categories.

The marathon's starting point is the Vishwapriya Function Hall on Rus Beach Road, with the picturesque Beach Road serving as a backdrop. The race is divided into four categories, catering to various levels of runners. The first category features the Full Marathon, spanning 42.19 km which will commence at 4:15 am and conclude at INS Kalinga. The second category offers a Half Marathon 21.1 km starting at 5:00 am. The third category, covering 10 km, will begin at 6:15 am and lead participants to Tenneti Park. The final category, a 5 km run, will extend up to Karaka Chettu Road.

In a recent event, the Vizag Navy Marathon unveiled its registration website, signaling the start of participant sign-ups. Commander CS Nair of ISS Kalinga highlighted that while 40% of participants will be from the Vizag Navy community, the remaining 60% will consist of individuals from the wider Indian Navy. The last date for registering is October 15, 2023, and the organizers anticipate a significant turnout of over 18000 runners. The age categories include 18-35 years for men and women, as well as a separate category for women aged 35-55.

The marathon's impact is underscored by the involvement of notable figures such as V. Srinivas, the CEO of Care Hospital, Captain C. G. Raju from Navy Defense PRO, Captain Prabhakar, the CEO of INS Kalinga, and others. As the Vizag Navy Marathon continues to grow, it remains a testament to the city's enthusiasm for running and a vibrant sporting culture.
