Vizag’s IT Boom: Local Youth Weigh Job Opportunities Against Salaries and Migration

Vizag’s Growing IT Sector Creates New Hopes

Visakhapatnam is attracting growing interest from major technology companies and startups, creating expectations of new career opportunities for local graduates. The expansion of the IT sector could open doors in software development, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.

According to a vox pop published by The Hans India on October 26, 2026, local youth have mixed views about the city’s technology boom. While some see it as an opportunity to build careers without leaving their hometown, others believe the benefits will depend on the quality of jobs and salaries offered.

Salary Packages Remain a Major Concern

One of the key concerns raised by young professionals is the difference in salary packages between Visakhapatnam and established technology hubs such as Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Bobbadi Jaswanth Kumar, a Visakhapatnam resident, observed that young professionals may continue migrating to other cities or countries if they seek higher salaries and faster career growth. He also cautioned that rapid expansion could eventually bring challenges such as traffic congestion, rising living costs and pressure on infrastructure.

Major Investments Raise Employment Expectations

Investments and expansion plans involving companies such as Google, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Cognizant have strengthened expectations that Visakhapatnam could emerge as a major IT and AI hub.

However, Bhanu Chandra Rekha Boddu of Andhra University highlighted that opportunities for fresh graduates and salary levels remain important concerns. She also raised questions about the water and electricity requirements of large data centres.

Turning Investment Announcements into Jobs

The long-term success of Visakhapatnam’s IT boom will depend on how effectively investment commitments translate into operational campuses, recruitment and sustainable employment.

Industry collaboration with colleges, practical skill development and stronger opportunities for freshers could help local graduates benefit from the expansion. At the same time, addressing environmental concerns and infrastructure requirements will be important as the city develops its technology ecosystem.

For Visakhapatnam’s youth, the key question is not simply whether more companies will arrive, but whether the growth will deliver competitive salaries, meaningful career progression and opportunities to build a future in their own city.
