VPA Awards East Q6 Berth Enhancement Contract to M/s Everson Marine via PPP Framework



In a strategic move towards its transformation into a modern and efficient landlord port, the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has initiated the implementation of its Asset Monetization program through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project.

Towards this initiative, the Chairman of VPA Dr. M. Angamuthu, issued the Letter of Award (LoA) to M/s. EVERSUN Marine Trade Private Limited, Visakhapatnam for the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project.

The project titled "Development and Mechanization of existing East Quay – 6 Berth in the Inner Harbour of Visakhapatnam Port for handling all types of Cargos on DBFOT basis" was formally initiated in the presence of Heads of Departments and the Head of the Project Monitoring Unit.

Chairperson of VPA expressed optimism about the impact of this facility on the Port of Visakhapatnam, emphasizing that it will significantly enhance throughput. The proposed facility entails the semi-mechanization of the existing EQ-6 Berth, featuring a berth length of 255 meters. 


The development project includes the installation of a new Harbour Mobile Crane (HMC) with a handling capacity of 1500TPH and a Mobile Hopper of 150 T, alongside other handling equipment such as Cranes, Loaders, Trucks, and Forklifts, involving an investment of Rs 66.12 Crores.

The facility's capacity is designed to handle all types of cargos, boasting a handling capacity of 2.62 MMTPA and accommodating vessels up to 50,000 DWT, with a maximum LoA of 200 meters and a beam of 32 meters at a draft of 11.50 meters.

The entire construction and installation process, including the new HMC and other project facilities, is projected to be completed within 15 months from the date of concession award, with a total concession period of 30 years.

Anticipating a positive impact on employment, the proposed facility is expected to generate at least 100 direct and indirect job opportunities for locals, promising to incorporate state-of-the-art technology. T. Venu Gopal, Secretary of VPA, officially communicated the aforementioned details. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Visakhapatnam Port, positioning it for enhanced efficiency and competitiveness in the maritime domain.
