Visakhapatnam: With the Diwali season approaching, Indian Railways has intensified its efforts to ensure safe travel by cautioning passengers against carrying firecrackers during their journeys.
The Waltair Division has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate passengers on the risks associated with transporting inflammable items like firecrackers on trains.
Railway officials have warned that carrying such hazardous materials is a punishable offense under the Railway Act, with penalties including up to three years in jail or a fine of ₹1,000, or both. Passengers are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items to railway staff or the Railway helpline (139).
To further enhance safety, the Waltair Division has implemented stringent checks and surveillance to prevent illegal transport of firecrackers. Public announcements at railway stations and special teams overseeing parcel vans are part of the division's measures to promote safe travel this festive season.
