Visakhapatnam – The first day of pension distribution under the newly elected National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government saw 1,64,150 pensions distributed across Visakhapatnam district.
District Collector K. Mayur Ashok personally visited the homes of some beneficiaries, handing out pensions to the elderly, physically challenged, and widows.
The initiative brought smiles to the faces of many as pensions were delivered directly to their doorsteps by secretariat employees.
The pension disbursing staff meticulously gathered beneficiary details, taking iris scans, signatures, or thumb impressions before handing over the pension amounts. Various MLAs from TDP, JSP, and BJP also participated, distributing pensions at organized programs in different wards of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and other locations in the district.
Under the NTR Bharosa scheme, the monthly pension amount has been increased to ₹4,000. Despite intermittent rain, secretariat staff traveled to their respective wards, equipped with umbrellas, to ensure timely distribution.
By 7 p.m., 1,56,147 pensions, accounting for 95.12 percent, had been disbursed, totaling ₹106.78 crore out of the ₹112.21 crore released.
In the rural mandals of Bheemunipatnam, Anandapuram, Padmanabham, and Pendurthi, the distribution coverage was 93.31 percent, with 93.41 percent of the amount distributed. In the urban mandals of Greater Visakhapatnam (1 to 6) and Bheemili (Urban), the coverage was 94.06 percent, with 94.07 percent of the amount distributed.
