Amaravati is the only capital of AP, says High Court, directs Govt. to follow CRDA act



In a major setback to the YS Jagan led AP Govt. the High Court on Thursday said that Amaravati is the only capital of the state. The bench The government of Andhra Pradesh led by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has received a huge blow from the High Court on Thursday.

The bench headed by Chief Justice of the High Court Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra delivered a key verdict on the cancellation of the three capitals, CRDA Act. 


High Court also ordered the state government to develop Amaravati as the capital. The court also made it clear that the assembly doesn’t have the right to make any laws on the capital. It directed the government to work in accordance with the CRDA act.

Court even ordered that the farmers in Amaravati should be handed back their developed plots, with all the facilities, within three months. It also directed the government to complete the master plan within 6 months as per the agreement and ordered to submit a periodic report on development works.

In its verdict, it also stated that the lands of the farmers should not be used for anything other than capital needs and no office should be moved from Amravati. It even ordered the government to pay Rs.50,000 for the expenses of the petitioners.

It is known that Amaravati farmers launched an agitation after being upset over the AP government's decision to move the capital. They are now celebrating with the new verdict of High Court.
