Night Food Bazaar at old jail road likely to reopen soon

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is planning to give nod for the food stall owners at the Night Food Bazaar to reopen them very soon.

With the COVID-19 cases in the state in decline and the night curfew being lifted, the night food bazaar located at the old jail road in the city is likely to reopen soon.

Urban Community Development (UCD) Wing of GVMC started the night food bazaar in the city in February 2020. It faced sanitation issues and didn’t do good business and as the COVID hit the world, it had to be closed.

It was actually reopened in December 2020 but continued only for a few months due to the second wave of the pandemic. Now, the stall owners are waiting to resume their business.

There are 35 registered members at the Night Food Bazaar, while nearly 80 trucks operate in the surroundings.

It is known that the Central Park Food Truckers Welfare Association members met Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD), Botcha Satyanarayana.

The Minister wrote a letter instructing GVMC officials to allow functioning of the night food bazaar in the city.

GVMC Commissioner G. Lakshmisha said that they have already written to Collector and Commissioner of Police seeking clarity about reopening night food bazaar. He also said that once officials approve, they will approve to reopen.
