In a major boost to local artisans and the handloom sector, the Andhra Pradesh government has approved the construction of a Unity Mall in Madhurawada, Visakhapatnam. The project, with a proposed investment of ₹172 crore, aims to create a dedicated space for promoting and selling indigenous handloom, handicraft, and locally made products under the “One District One Product” (ODOP) initiative.
An initial allocation of ₹10 crore has been sanctioned to kickstart the construction process. The Unity Mall will serve as a hub for artisans, self-help groups, and local entrepreneurs, providing them with a modern marketplace to showcase their products and connect directly with consumers.
The facility is expected to feature retail kiosks, exhibition halls, training spaces, and dedicated zones for cultural activities, making it not just a commercial space but also a cultural landmark for the city. Once operational, the mall is likely to attract both domestic and international tourists, boosting economic activity and job creation in the region.
This project is aligned with the Central Government’s vision to empower traditional industries and promote locally sourced goods across India. The Unity Mall in Visakhapatnam stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to inclusive development and the preservation of cultural heritage.
