Audit Reveals 1,407 Objections to Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Transactions Worth 777 Crore
In a recent development, the state audit department has identified 1,407 objections related to both financial and non-financial transactions conducted by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) over the span of the last three fiscal years (2019-20 to 2021-22).
The total amount under scrutiny is a staggering 777 crore.
GVMC officials have been diligently addressing these objections as they arise, ensuring timely responses to the audit department's concerns.
This audit marks a substantial addition to the historical tally, with the GVMC facing a total of 6,356 objections since the initiation of urban local bodies' auditing in the state back in 1986-87.
During a council meeting held on Tuesday, TDP corporator Raparthi Triveni Vara Prasad Rao raised pertinent questions seeking clarification from the GVMC.
Rao highlighted a specific instance from the AG audit conducted in August 2023, which revealed an outstanding uncollected vacant land tax amounting to 28 crores. Astonishingly, this sum was identified by scrutinizing just 24 files.
Rao inquired about the current status of the replies submitted by the GVMC in response to these audit findings.
The council meeting served as a platform to address and shed light on these crucial financial matters.
