Carmel Mayor James Brainard Explores Cultural Exchange with Visakhapatnam

In a significant step towards fostering cultural exchange and knowledge-sharing, Mayor James Brainard of Carmel, Indiana State, USA, embarked on his first official visit to Visakhapatnam.

This visit comes in the wake of an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in July between the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and Carmel.

During his stay, Mayor Brainard actively participated in a meeting organized by the Visakhapatnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The President, M. Sudarshan Swamy, delivered a presentation outlining the rich history of the organization.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Brainard shared insights into Carmel, highlighting its population of approximately one lakh, with 10% being of Indian origin. He emphasized Carmel's commitment to environmental protection, boasting well-maintained walking and cycling tracks and strict adherence to traffic rules.

Mayor Brainard proudly stated that Carmel holds the lowest road accident death rate per year compared to other cities in the USA. Furthermore, he disclosed that the city allocates 2% of its total revenue annually towards arts and culture initiatives.

Mayor Brainard's itinerary also included visits to prominent landmarks in Visakhapatnam, such as Kailasagiri, the Telugu Museum, the Indoor Sports Arena at MVP Colony, and the Kurusura Submarine Museum on Beach Road. He commended the GVMC authorities for their efforts in maintaining greenery throughout the city.

Accompanied by officials from GVMC and the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), Mayor Brainard's visit signifies a meaningful step towards strengthening the bond between Carmel and Visakhapatnam through cultural exchange and shared learning.
