CID Busts Job Scam Fraudster in Visakhapatnam
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Visakhapatnam successfully apprehended Ginni Gopi, a 29-year-old man hailing from Juttada village in Pendurthi,
On April 10, 2024. Gopi stands accused of orchestrating job scams in 17 online cases, preying on unemployed individuals across Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
His modus operandi involved luring victims with promising job opportunities and then swindling them through UPI payments.
The CID's action stemmed from a complaint lodged by a victim from Bheemili, who fell victim to Gopi's fraudulent activities.
Gopi conducted sham interviews via Google Meet, issued counterfeit job offers, and conducted UPI transactions to siphon off money.
Investigations revealed that Ginni Gopi held a B Tech degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and had briefly worked at a software company in Hyderabad, Telangana, before resorting to online scams.
He targeted job seekers who had posted their details on platforms like LinkedIn, contacting them through WhatsApp and extorting money under false promises of securing job placements.
Among his victims were a woman from Nandyala district, who lost Rs 3.18 lakh, and a youth from Tirupati, who was cheated out of Rs 30,000.
Charges against Ginni Gopi, now in CID custody, have been filed at Kolimigundla and Tirupati police stations, along with the Cyber Crime Police Station in Visakhapatnam.
