Cyclone Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Parts of Andhra Pradesh



Visakhapatnam: The depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclone, named Dana, by Wednesday.
 
Heavy rainfall is likely to affect parts of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, October 24.
 
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the storm is currently centered approximately 700 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 750 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal), and 730 km south-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh). Moving northwest, it is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by Thursday morning.
 
The storm is expected to make landfall between Puri (Odisha) and Sagar Island (West Bengal) on the night of October 24 or the early hours of October 25. Wind speeds could reach 100-110 km/h, with gusts up to 120 km/h.
 
 
 

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea between October 23 and 25. IMD also warned of thunderstorms and lightning across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, with strong surface winds of 30-40 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h, expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
 
On Friday, heavy rainfall is predicted in north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Meanwhile, district collectors in Srikakulam and Parvathipuram Manyam are conducting precautionary meetings to ensure readiness in the event of severe weather.
