District Collector Highlights Development Projects and Welfare Schemes at Republic Day Celebrations



District Collector A. Mallikarjuna took the opportunity during the 75th Republic Day celebrations at the Police Barracks ground to shed light on upcoming development projects and the extension of welfare schemes benefiting diverse sections of the district.

The event commenced with the unfurling of the national flag by the Collector, followed by a salute from the police contingent led by the parade commander, accompanied by the national anthem performed by the police band.

Subsequently, the Collector inspected the guard of honour presented by the contingents while riding around the ground in an open-top vehicle. The police contingents performed a march-past as the Collector acknowledged the salute from the stage.

In his address to the gathering, Dr. Mallikarjuna emphasized the comprehensive impact of mixed development and welfare policies, ensuring widespread benefits for all segments of the population.

Elaborating on the progress made by the district, the Collector discussed achievements in various sectors facilitated by departments such as Medical and Health, Women Development and Child Welfare, Agriculture, Rural Development, and others.


Notable accomplishments included the prestigious ‘Blue Flag’ certification awarded to Rushikonda Beach, placing it on the global tourism map. The district also witnessed the emergence of star hotels and luxury resorts.

The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has initiated the construction of a floating bridge project near Tenneti Park, scheduled to open to the public by the end of the month.

Furthermore, adventure sports facilities such as zipline, sky cycling, glass sky walk bridge, and flash tower, costing Rs. 5 crore, are in development at Kailasagiri, attracting tourists to the region.

During the event, the Collector honored freedom fighters, Padma awardees, and distinguished individuals from various fields.

'Pratibha puraskarams' were presented to 513 officials and employees exhibiting exceptional talent. Dr. Mallikarjuna also visited stalls set up by various departments, and patriotic dance performances by students added a cultural touch to the celebration.
