Today, a tragic accident occurred at GMFC Labs Pvt Ltd, a Pharma Company located in the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of the Anakapalle district, killing one and injuring three others as the company's reactor exploded. The injured people were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

This reactor explosion caused panic among workers and bystanders, wreaking havoc in the area. A massive amount of smoke erupted from the GMFC Labs unit, where the explosion occurred. The police and fire departments rushed to the scene and evacuated the workers from the company premises. The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined.

In December 2022, a similar incident occurred in unit 3 of Laurus Labs Limited, which is located at JN Pharma City in Parawada, Anakapalle district, killing four people and injuring several others. A few leaders and activists from various political parties and trade organizations have alleged that pharma companies in north coastal Andhra Pradesh are violating safety standards, resulting in such incidents.
