Government's National Quantum Mission Offers Vast Opportunities for Scientists
During the 'Young Physicists Meet' organized by the Indian Physics Association (IPA) Visakhapatnam chapter, Director Achanta Venugopal of the National Physics Laboratory (NPL-New Delhi) highlighted the immense potential of the National Quantum Mission.
He stated that the government's allocation of Rs 6,000 crore to the National Quantum Mission Fund signifies a significant investment in seeding, nurturing, and scaling up scientific and industrial research and development in quantum technology .
Venugopal emphasized the government's commitment to positioning India as a global leader in Quantum Technologies and Applications (QTA).
He mentioned that the government is facilitating access to funds for establishing start-ups and conducting research in various areas, including semiconducting technologies, quantum computing, 6G-technologies, and green energy.
Encouraging young scholars and students to seize this opportunity, Venugopal urged them to focus on developing indigenous technologies to make India self-reliant in the field.
He also provided insights into the research facilities available at NPL.
Arun K Pati, the director of Quantum Ecosystems Technology Council of India (QETCI), elucidated the fundamentals of quantum computing, emphasizing its importance for various applications.
Additionally, KS Sri Krishna, the dean of GITAM School of Science, emphasized the pivotal role of the youth in shaping the nation's future.
Professor Gurazada Ravikumar discussed the application of superconducting technology in creating quantum computers, while BVR Tata, a former scientist at Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), highlighted the contributions of Sir C V Raman in shaping India's scientific culture.
The event witnessed participation from 200 individuals representing various universities and research organizations, indicating a widespread interest and engagement in quantum technology research and development.
