GVMC Announces Full Ban on Single-Use Plastics in Visakhapatnam from January 2025

Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has declared a comprehensive ban on single-use plastics throughout Visakhapatnam, effective January 1, 2025. This move is part of the city’s ambitious “zero garbage, zero plastic” initiative and will be enforced with fines for those who violate the regulation.

In preparation for the transition, GVMC will launch a 45-day awareness campaign to help residents and businesses adapt to eco-friendly alternatives. This campaign, set to begin soon, will focus on educating the public about sustainable options to replace single-use plastics.

GVMC Commissioner P Sampath Kumar emphasized that this ban aligns with the goal of making Visakhapatnam one of the cleanest cities in India, underscoring the city’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
