GVMC Remains Headless for 100 Days, Hindering Civic Operations in Visakhapatnam

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), one of the largest urban civic bodies in Andhra Pradesh, has remained without a full-time Commissioner for the past 100 days. This leadership vacuum has begun to noticeably impact the day-to-day functioning of the corporation, stalling several key civic initiatives and developmental projects.

The absence of a permanent administrative head has not only delayed policy decisions but also weakened the implementation of existing civic programs. Departments are reportedly working without proper coordination, and routine approvals for infrastructure, sanitation, and urban planning have slowed down. Citizens have started expressing concerns over pending public grievances and a drop in the overall efficiency of the municipal services.

Officials and local representatives stress the urgent need for government intervention to appoint a full-time Commissioner. Without proactive leadership, critical issues like waste management, road repairs, and water supply remain inadequately addressed.

GVMC plays a pivotal role in managing the infrastructure and civic affairs of Visakhapatnam, a city aspiring for rapid urban growth. The prolonged vacancy raises serious questions about administrative priorities and governance at the urban level. Stakeholders hope the government will take immediate action to restore stability and direction to the civic body.
