The Visakhapatnam–Kakinada PCPIR has emerged as one of India’s three major operational petroleum, chemical and petrochemical investment regions.

Together with Dahej in Gujarat and Paradeep in Odisha, the three PCPIRs have attracted cumulative investments of ₹3,49,192 crore.

These industrial regions have collectively generated employment for around 3.7 lakh people.

A total of 2,246 chemical manufacturing units are currently operational across the three PCPIRs. �

The figures underline the growing importance of specialised industrial regions in expanding India’s chemical and petrochemical manufacturing capacity.

The Visakhapatnam–Kakinada corridor gives Andhra Pradesh an important position in this national industrial network.

India’s chemical sector has also attracted around ₹1,04,895 crore in FDI between 2014 and 2026.

This compares with ₹45,240 crore received during the 2004–2014 period.

India permits 100% FDI through the automatic route in most chemical sectors, supporting further investment. �

The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals has also introduced initiatives covering infrastructure, skills, quality improvement and investment promotion.

Training programmes are being conducted for workers at Major Accident Hazardous units to strengthen the safe handling of hazardous chemicals.

The investment figures highlight the role of PCPIRs, including Vizag–Kakinada, in strengthening India's chemical and petrochemical manufacturing ecosystem.
