GVMC Undertakes Ambitious Initiative: Opening 100 Parks Simultaneously in Visakhapatnam

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has embarked on an ambitious project to inaugurate 100 parks simultaneously by the end of February, potentially before the announcement of general election notifications.

GVMC Commissioner C.M. Saikanth Varma announced that 132 suitable sites, each spanning an area of one acre or more, have been identified across various locations in the city.

These sites, primarily located in suburban areas such as Madhurawada, Gopalapatnam, and Gajuwaka, are currently vacant lands.

With an estimated minimum investment of 50 crore rupees required for the development of these parks, the corporation is exploring financial assistance from industries under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Additionally, GVMC is prepared to utilize its general funds if necessary to ensure the successful execution of the project.

Commissioner Varma revealed that a dedicated team has been assembled to oversee the development of these parks, with the goal of ensuring that each park boasts a minimum of 70% green cover.

Despite acknowledging the challenging nature of the task, Varma expressed confidence in the team's ability to achieve the ambitious objective.

GVMC has already demonstrated its commitment to enhancing recreational spaces in the city by developing approximately 10 theme parks, with most of them poised for inauguration.

Notably, three theme parks have been established in GVMC Zone-2, with an investment of around 6 crore rupees from the corporation's general funds.

Examples include the recently inaugurated Yoga and Meditation theme park at the PM Palem last bus stop, along with two other theme parks in the Madhurawada area such as the Sports Park.
