GVMC's Response to Marine Pollution PIL Condemned by Petitioners in AP High Court
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation's (GVMC) reaction to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, accusing the release of untreated wastewater into the sea near Visakhapatnam city of causing marine pollution, has been criticized by the petitioners.
Rajendra Singh, known as the Waterman of India, and environmentalist Bolishetty Satyanarayana filed the PIL. The case was heard on Wednesday (January 31) before Chief Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur and Raghunandan Rao.
During the hearing, the petitioners expressed dissatisfaction with the committee's report, formed as per the Court order, stating that it lacked a thoughtful approach to solving the problem or understanding its severity.
Satyanarayana mentioned that the Advocate General, on behalf of the AP government, filed an additional affidavit seeking two weeks' time.
Consequently, the court adjourned the case to February 14.
