INS Tarmugli Rejoins Indian Navy After Dual-Nation Service
In a momentous ceremony conducted at the naval dockyard in Visakhapatnam under the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, Chief of Materiel of the Indian Navy, officially commissioned INS Tarmugli on Thursday.
The fast attack craft, with a storied history, marked its return to the Indian Navy, showcasing a remarkable journey under different flags and names.
Originally commissioned in the Indian Navy as INS Tillanchang, belonging to the Trinkat class of ships, INS Tarmugli remained actively in service until 2006.
Following this period, as part of diplomatic efforts in the Indian Ocean region, the vessel was bestowed upon the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and rechristened as MCGS Huravee on April 16, 2006. It dutifully served under the Maldivian flag until its decommissioning in May 2023.
In a symbolic return this May, INS Tarmugli came back to the Indian Navy. Following extensive restoration work at the Visakhapatnam Naval Dockyard, the vessel emerged in its present avatar, ready to contribute to the maritime capabilities of the nation.
Equipped with advanced features such as MTU engines, water jet propulsion, state-of-the-art communication equipment, a 30 mm gun, and an advanced radar system, INS Tarmugli is poised to play a vital role in coastal surveillance.
The ship's reincarnation and re-induction into the Indian Navy mark a significant chapter in its service history and highlight the ongoing commitment to strengthening maritime capabilities.
