She is a handloom enthusiast, a coffee, and book lover. Kavitha Kamineni was born in Krishna district and spent most of her time in Vizag.

Profession:
Doctor

Hobbies and Interests:
I love to read books, collect sarees, and also wear them. Apart from that watching sunrises and spending time alone by the beach.

Education:
She did her schooling in SSSVV, MVP Colony, Visakhapatnam, and MBBS at Andhra medical college

Achievements during early days of career: National topper and winner of Vijaylakshmi memorial and captain Anand memorial award for outstanding performance in critical care. Established a 12-bed intensive care unit at ABC Hospitals in 2011 and gave a new lease of life to a number of patients since then.

Early days of career:
They were tough but I loved every bit of it

Key to success:
Family support and the ability to persevere in the face of adversity

Inspiration:
Cannot name one person. My teachers, professional role models and a lot of powerful women, who made this world a better place for our generation. They all inspire me

Struggles:
When I first set up practice people didn’t understand what critical care was. They ridiculed me and thought I had nothing significant to contribute to patient care. It took me a year to show a difference in outcomes. It was tough at the time. As a trainee and during my early years of practice I was told that I was too ambitious for a woman to choose critical care as my core area of practice.

Balancing my family life with work ( especially when my twins were young) was a huge challenge at the time and then this constant pressure to prove myself was a whole lot of added pressure.

Thoughts on Women’s Life: I am quoting someone else here - women have to be twice as good as men to be considered half as good— and I so agree with that

Advice to women:
Life doesn’t stop with marriage and maternity. It is not selfish to have your own dreams and to pursue them. Strong women raise independent and strong kids. So don’t confine yourself to home. It’s not easy but it’s not impossible either

Favourite Book:
Many actually. Jim Collins is my favourite author

Where do you aim to see yourself in the next five years?
Wherever life takes me to

What are your thoughts about feminism?
The whole concept is a bit misguided these days. But in my opinion, it’s a belief system that fights for women to have equal opportunities as men and equal rights. It’s a shame we are in 2022 still talking about the victimisation of women, violence to suppress them and gender-based inequalities

Message to Hello Vizag readers
Well, I don’t think I qualify to give messages to readers. I am one among them
