Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver at Paris Olympics, Falls Short of Gold

India's javelin star Neeraj Chopra earned a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, showcasing his skills before an enthusiastic crowd at the Stade de France. With a remarkable throw of 89.45 meters, Neeraj secured the second position on the podium.

Despite achieving his season's best, he was edged out by Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters.

The previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters was held by Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen, set at the 2008 Beijing Games. Notably, Thorkildsen and three-time Olympic champion and world record holder Jan Zelezny of the Czech Republic were present in the stands to witness the competition.

Neeraj Chopra’s silver medal makes him only the third Indian athlete and the first in track and field to win back-to-back individual Olympic medals. Wrestler Sushil Kumar (2008 and 2012) and shuttler PV Sindhu (2016 and 2021) are the others who have achieved this remarkable feat.

Reflecting on his performance, Neeraj, who previously won gold at the Tokyo Olympics, expressed his sentiments:
"We all feel a sense of pride when we win a medal for our country. Now, it's time to focus on improvement. We'll analyze and work on enhancing our performance. India performed admirably at the Paris Olympics, and the competition was fierce. Today was Arshad's day. I gave it my all, but there are areas that need refinement."

He added, “Our national anthem might not have been played today, but it will definitely be heard in the future. If not here in Paris, then somewhere else.”

Concluding on a positive note, Neeraj said, “It’s all good inside. My best throw is yet to come out. It will emerge when I’m fully fit and mentally prepared.”
