Now, medical kits on trains

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that medical boxes containing emergency medicines, medical equipment, and oxygen cylinders have been set up in all trains and railway stations across the country to provide medical services to train passengers.

Answering a question asked by YSRCP member V Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, the minister said that train ticket examiners (TTE), train guards, superintendents, and station masters, who are front-line staff, are being trained to provide first-aid services to passengers in emergency situations.

The Minister stated that an expert committee has been formed with doctors from AIIMS in Delhi as a result of the Supreme Court's order to examine the issue of providing emergency medical services in trains and railway stations.

The minister said that the expert panel recommended that medical boxes with emergency medicines should be set up in railway stations along with all passenger trains and that railway staff should be trained in providing first aid services. If any passenger falls ill then the doctor who is available among the train passengers shall provide immediate medical or at the nearest railway station.

He said that refresher courses are conducted from time to time for the railway staff who provide first aid services. Also, the list of hospitals near the railway station, doctors working there, and their mobile numbers are available at the railway stations.

The Minister mentioned that the ambulance services of railway, state, Central government, and private hospitals have also been made available to take sick or injured passengers to the hospital.
